New Delhi, India On June 7, the Income Tax Department will launch a new taxpayer-friendly e-filing portal. The portal’s new features include interactive software for preparing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) and a call centre for taxpayer assistance, according to the Finance Ministry on Saturday.
“On June 7, the Income Tax Department will launch its new e-filing portal www.incometax.gov.in, with the goal of providing taxpayer convenience and a modern, seamless experience,” according to an official statement.
New taxpayer-friendly portal integrated with immediate processing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) to provide taxpayers with prompt refunds. All interactions, uploads, and pending actions will be displayed on a single dashboard for taxpayer follow-up action. To begin, a free ITR preparation software with interactive questions is available to assist taxpayers with ITRs 1, 4 (online and offline) and ITR 2 (offline); a facility for preparing ITRs 3, 5, 6, and 7 will be made available shortly, according to the statement.
Taxpayers will be able to proactively update their profile to provide specific income details such as salary, house property, business or profession, which will be used to pre-fill their ITR. After TDS and SFT statements are uploaded, detailed pre-filling with salary income, interest, dividends, and capital gains will be available (due date is June 30th, 2021), According to the Finance Ministry, the new portal will also include a new call centre for taxpayer assistance to provide timely responses to taxpayer inquiries.
The ministry clarified that the new tax payment system will be launched on June 18 following the advance tax instalment date to avoid any taxpayer inconvenience, adding that the mobile app will also be released following the initial launch of the portal to allow taxpayers to become acquainted with the various features.
