Haseen Dillruba’s writer Kanika Dhillon, Taapsee Pannu lash out at Navjot Gulati for ‘sexist’ tweet!

New Delhi: Director Navjot Gulati has sparked outrage with a scathing tweet directed at the writer of the film Haseen Dillruba, Kanika Dhillon, who has responded to his’sexist’ and’misogynistic’ tweets.

He made fun of the writer, claiming that she only got screenwriting credits because she married into the production company. Kanika Dhillon is married to Himanshu Sharma, who wrote the ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and ‘Raanjhanaa’ series.

In his tweet, he stated, “You must marry into the production house if you want top billing as a screenwriter in a trailer (which should be the norm). When a writer becomes a family member, he or she is treated as if he or she were an actor or actress “..

Check out his tweet:

Kanika Dhillon did not take the insult lying down and responded with a fiery tweet.

Kanika Dhillon responded by writing, “Hello, @Navjotalive.

I’m shocked by your extremely SEXIST – MYSOGINIST and bordering on IDIOTIC comment. I’m also not going to list my body of work because your pea-sized brain won’t be able to process a successful woman making it on her own! You might have a brain freeze! Have a wonderful day.”

“And mr @Navjotalive because of writers like YOU – who display your STUPIDITY on something that should be applauded as a welcome step by the writing fraternity- other very deserving writers do not get top billing as is their right—- shame on u!” she continued.

Taapsee Pannu, the lead actress in the upcoming film ‘Haseen Dilruba,’ has also spoken out in support of the screenwriter.

She penned, “The age-old misogyny of attributing a woman’s success to the house she marries in or the man she marries turned a progressive call to credit a writer into a sexist rant. Your righteous demand for equal credit cannot be trumped by your bitterness.”

After the controversy erupted on the internet, Navjot Gulati issued a clarification, writing, “My tweet was intended to criticise Netflix’s Credit system, and I made an observation intended as a quip. Nobody was tagged by me. I also didn’t want to draw attention away from the main issue, which was Netflix’s failure to credit cast and crew in the trailer. Writers, in particular.”

Navjot Gulati is known for his work on films such as ‘Jai Mummy Di,’ ‘Happily Ever After,’ and ‘Best Girlfriend.’

Vinil Mathew directed Haseen Dillruba, and Kanika Dhillon wrote the screenplay and dialogues. Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, Harshvardhan Rane, and Aditya Srivastava play important roles. It is scheduled to be released on July 2, 2021.
