A Kanpur woman was killed in a traffic hold-up for President Ram Nath Kovind, and cops apologised.

Kanpur: A 50-year-old woman died as a result of an excessive delay in reaching the hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. The cause of the delay was traffic restrictions imposed in the city as a result of President Ramnath Kovind’s visit.

The UP Police has issued an apology for the unfortunate incident after a woman died in Kanpur on Friday night. Vandana Mishra, the victim, was the head of the women’s wing of the Kanpur chapter of the Indian Association of Industries.

Kanpur Police Chief Asim Arun apologised to Mishra’s family on Twitter and said the incident was a big lesson for the future.

“I am deeply saddened by Vandana Mishra’s death on behalf of Kanpur Police and myself. This is an important lesson for the future. We promise that our ‘route’ system will ensure that citizens are held up for the shortest amount of time possible so that such incidents do not occur again “The tweet stated.

In another tweet, Asim stated that the President was disturbed after learning about the incident.

“He (the President) called the police commissioner and the district magistrate to inquire about the incident, and he directed officials to personally convey his condolences to the family,” police said.

President Kovind is in Uttar Pradesh for three days, during which he will visit his home village in the neighbouring ‘Kanpur Dehat’ district. He arrived in Kanpur by train last night and will spend Monday and Tuesday in Lucknow.
