Another shocking incident of women being harassed in Delhi has come to light, this time in a public place. In a video that has gone viral, a group of men can be seen misbehaving with women from the Northeast in the Hauz Khas neighbourhood.
A group of men allegedly approached a group of women and inquired about their “hourly rate.” As the enraged women slammed the middle-aged men, the rest of the group erupted in laughter. According to the woman in the video, the people in their immediate vicinity did not come to their aid or raise a protest.
In addition, the girls claimed that their predicament did not end with the departure of the men, as reported by some media outlets. When they were on their way to a restaurant, they recount another discriminatory incident that occurred the same night, in which a police officer intervened and asked them repeatedly about their destination while they were on their way. The women in the video claim that the officer also inquired as to whether or not they were dancers.

The incident was brought to the attention of the Delhi Commission for Women on its own initiative. As the chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCCW), Swati Maliwal took to social media and tweeted, “It was on social media that I came across a shameful video in which some women from the North East claim that a group of men has racially and sexually harassed them and asked, “Tumhara rate kya hai.” This is a very serious matter, as is the issuance of a Notice to Delhi Police to file a formal complaint.”
