Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government is organising rural sports events in all 75 districts and building mini stadiums in rural areas to promote sports talent and hone players’ skills.
In the state, up to 20 mini stadiums are being built, with the government releasing the third instalment for the project, one of which is already completed. In addition to these, the government has sanctioned 30 more such stadiums, which are in various stages of construction.
The idea behind the entire exercise is to tap into the vast talent found in rural areas and provide them with a national and international platform. “By establishing mini-stadiums in rural areas, youth will be given opportunities and facilities for exposure. It is worth noting that CM Yogi recently congratulated the athletes who brought honour to the country during the Tokyo Olympics.”
Sports event organised at block level for the first time
After the Yogi government took power in the state, it began organising rural sports competitions to encourage young people to participate in sports. A total of Rs 40,000 was made available to each district for the events.
The budget for the fiscal year 2018-19 was increased in response to the interest of players in the rural sector. Sports competitions have now begun at the block level, with a budget of Rs 250 lakh set aside for this purpose.
In addition, rural sports competitions were held in 701 development blocks across 62 districts in 2020-21. During this time, a total of 18 divisional and 6 zonal level competitions were held, providing an opportunity for rural youth to compete.
