Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to the Premier League was greeted with a rousing reception at Old Trafford, where he was named to the starting XI in Manchester United’s match against Newcastle.

The 36-year-old Portuguese, who returns to his boyhood club after a decade away, will look to make the occasion memorable, and given his recent form, it will be interesting to see how Newcastle manages to stop the talismanic striker.

Ronaldo recently made history when he surpassed Iran’s Ali Daei to become the player with the most international goals. The 36-year-old scored a last-gasp winner in Portugal’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Ireland, bringing his career total to 111, while Daei has 109.

Ronaldo will wear the number 7 jersey, which was previously worn by Edinson Cavani.

“Cristiano conversed with Edinson, and they conversed with each other. And passing on his shirt demonstrates his respect for Cristiano, but Cristiano speaking to Edinson demonstrates the respect in the opposite direction. Two of the best professionals and players in the world, “Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made the remarks ahead of the match against Newcastle.

Manchester United is third in the standings, while Newcastle is 17th.
