Lancashire will need assistance from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to deal with the cancellation of the Old Trafford Test, as they face’multimillion-pound’ losses, according to Daniel Gidney, the county’s chief executive.

The BCCI and ECB held several rounds of talks to find a way to play the Test match in Manchester, but an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Indian team contingent forced the decision to call the game off.

Lancashire Cricket has also promised that those who purchased hospitality (including hotel guests) or tickets for the fifth and final Test Match will be automatically refunded the full face value of their tickets or hospitality package only.

According to espncricinfo.com, when asked if the club was “in a position to wear” the losses, Gidney replied, “no.”

“These are extraordinary circumstances,” Gidney stated. “We’re currently in mitigation mode. We’ll have to work this out with the ECB.”

“How significant are our losses? We’re talking about large sums of money here. We’re talking about seven-figure sums. It’s in the billions of pounds. It’s extremely difficult. We will need to collaborate with the ECB and others to get through this.”

Daniel Gidney apologised unequivocally to ticket holders in a statement released by Lancashire Cricket. “We sincerely apologise to all ticket holders and those who have or will travel to Emirates Old Trafford. We will issue a full refund, but we understand that for many fans, attending this Test match is about more than just the money. After the last 18 months of the pandemic, it’s a fixture cricket fans in the North West have been looking forward to for the better part of 18 months “He stated.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has currently offered the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) a rescheduling of the cancelled 5th Test match, which was scheduled to begin on Friday in Manchester.

“In light of the BCCI’s strong relationship with the ECB, the BCCI has offered the ECB a rescheduling of the cancelled Test match. Both Boards will work to find a suitable time to reschedule this Test match “According to a statement issued by the BCCI.
